Mbazulike Iloka, the chairman of the Nnewi North Local Government Area’s Transition Committee, has been detained. Governor Chukwuma Soludo had already suspended Iloka over the death of his wife, Chidiebere.
The state government withdrew Iloka from office after charges of wife assault that may have contributed to his wife’s death. Iloka had been sworn in as the local government area’s chairman less than a week before his wife passed away. The troubled chairman, though, has refuted the allegations, claiming that he didn’t strike his deceased wife. He claimed that while bringing him lunch, she tripped, fell, and banged her head on a concrete wall.
Police sources say the suspended chairman who is popularly known as Mba Mba is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka, Anambra State, under charges of culpable homicide.
The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police command while confirming his arrest, called on members of the public to be patient as the autopsy shall prove the cause of the wife’s death.
